Why am I so sensitive?

Being very sensitive usually comes from temperament, history, or load. Researchers estimate that around 15 to 20 percent of people are born with a more sensitive nervous system (Elaine Aron's work on highly sensitive people). Others became sensitive because childhood required reading every mood in the room. And chronic stress lowers anyone's threshold. Sensitivity is a setting, with real costs and real gifts.

What it looks like

The usual reasons

Born permeable

Some people take in more: more feeling, more detail, more of other people's moods. It is how they are built.

Where a chart tends to show it: Moon in Pisces, Sun in Pisces, Life Path 11

Reading the room to stay safe

If you had to track the adults' moods as a child, the skill stayed switched on.

Where a chart tends to show it: Moon in Cancer, Moon in Libra, Mercury in Cancer

Running on empty

Stress and tiredness lower the threshold. Things you would normally shrug off land hard.

Where a chart tends to show it: Moon in Virgo, Mars square Saturn, Soul Urge 11

Feelings that were dismissed

When feelings were told they were too much, they did not shrink. They became raw.

Where a chart tends to show it: Moon conjunct Saturn, Saturn in Cancer, Moon square Saturn

Same behavior, different reasons

One person is sensitive because they were born that way, and needs a life with more quiet in it. Another became sensitive from years of reading other people's moods, and needs to learn that they can stop watching. Same reaction, opposite fix: one needs protection, the other needs to stand down.
