Why do I cry when I'm angry?

Crying when you are angry is common and does not mean you are weak. It usually happens because anger is sitting on top of hurt, because showing anger was once unsafe so the body chooses tears instead, because the feeling floods faster than words can keep up, or because you feel powerless to change what made you angry.

What it looks like

The usual reasons

Anger on top of hurt

The anger is the surface. Underneath is something that hurt, and that is what comes out.

Where a chart tends to show it: Mars in Cancer, Moon in Cancer, Mercury in Cancer

Anger that was unsafe

If anger got you punished or shamed growing up, the body learned to turn it into something softer.

Where a chart tends to show it: Saturn in Aries, Mars conjunct Saturn, Mars in Libra

Flooding

The feeling arrives all at once and is bigger than the moment can hold. Tears are the overflow.

Where a chart tends to show it: Moon square Pluto, Moon conjunct Pluto, Moon in Aries

Powerlessness

You are angry at something you cannot change. Tears are frustration with nowhere to act.

Where a chart tends to show it: Mars opposite Saturn, Mars square Saturn, Mars in Pisces

Same behavior, different reasons

One person cries in anger because they were taught anger was not allowed. Another cries because they feel everything at full volume. The first needs practice letting anger be heard. The second needs a way to slow the flood before speaking.
